Description
Roscomare teacher Miss O’Dell, will guide the students in the fundamentals of building a working robot for two teams of 6 students each to compete in the Vex IQ competitions. Team members will compete by designing and building a robot, driving the robot and coding the robot to drive itself.
The VEX IQ Competition provides students with exciting challenges that enhance their science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) skills through hands-on, student-centered learning. Competitive robotics not only encompasses all four pillars of STEM education, but also encourages life skills like teamwork, communication, and project-based organization. TEAM ROSCOMARE, ROBOTICS
Class Day and Time: Mondays & Wednesdays 3-4pm
Grade Level: 4th and 5th graders with coach approval
Session: Classes meet twice a week for 1 hour each (17 hour long classes at $20/per class- $340) plus the $100 registration and materials fee for the competitions for a total of $440.
- Space for these sessions are very limited and students can sign up with coach approval.
- Payments are neither refundable nor transferrable.

November: 2, (7-Competition Day), 9, (14 -No after school on Minimum Day),(16 -No after school on Minimum Day)(No School 21-25 Thanksgiving break), 28, 30

January: 9, 11, (No School on 16 for MLK day), 18,(23-Competition Day), 25 (end of Season meeting)

Transportation for Competition Days:
Parents will need to provide transportation for their child to all competitions. Carpooling is welcomed and encouraged.
Competition Times: 4pm-7pm
Competition Location: Fairfax High School, 7850 Melrose Avenue, Los Angeles, CA, 90046.
-Parents will need to sign a release form for the VEX IQ organization.
-For the competition there will be one online interview for each team. The date will be determined in December and will be within the two weeks prior to the final competition.

- What if my child misses a class?
No make-up classes are offered, and classes, and payments for sessions are neither refundable nor transferrable. Please email Miss O’Dell if your child will be missing a class so she will know not to look for your child.
- How will my child know when and where to go?
Students will need to meet at Room 10 right after school.
Pick up:
Children need to be picked up in the front of the school as soon as the class ends at 4:05pm. All parents need to be on time, no childcare is available for students who are picked up late. Parents will drive up to the front of school at 4:05pm on Mondays and Wednesdays to pick up their child or you can choose to park on Roscomare Road and pick up at the front of the school.
Competition Days:

Illness:
If the teacher notices that a child appears ill when they arrive to class, even if the student indicates they feel ok, a parent will be called to pick them up without delay.

I understand that while precautions are in place to keep students as safe as possible, there is a risk of contracting Covid-19 and other illnesses while part of this program. While we have rules in place to limit possible exposure, participation in this program includes possible exposure to and illness from infectious diseases including but not limited to COVID-19. While particular rules may reduce this risk, the risk does exist. By purchasing this class, I acknowledge that and knowingly and freely assume all such risks. I understand that once payment has been made for this class it is non-refundable/non-transferrable. I understand that if my child needs to be removed from the class due to discipline issues or consistent late pickups, there will be no refund. I will not pick up my child early as it will disrupt the program for all students. I must pick up my child on time at 4:05pm.
